Built in 1825 by John Y. Hill as his home, this building is one of Elizabethtown's finest examples of rural Federal architecture. Known for many years as "The Hill House" a boarding house and inn conducted by Aunt Beck Hill, it once housed General George Custer and his wife in the 1870's. The house was presented to Elizabethtown for a Community House by Dr. William Allen Pusey and Dr. Robert Brown Pusey in 1923.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the E'town Swim & Fitness Center, a multi-purpose fitness and recreation facility. The center offers tennis, racquetball, basketball, aerobics/fitness, swimming, strength training, intramural sports, youth programs and hosts major competitive events.

Weights, Nautilus equipment, cardio workouts, an aerobics room, group fitness classes, yoga, Pilates and kickboxing. A walk/running track, personal training, tanning, weight loss programs and free child care are also offered.


Freeman Lake Park
North Dixie Avenue.
Lincoln Heritage House, a double log house crafted in part by Abraham Lincoln's father, Thomas Lincoln. Next door is a restored one-room school house which was built with handmade shingles in 1892. The Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln Memorial Cabin was built in 1992 of 122 year-old, hand-hewn logs and is a close replica of the one Sarah Bush was living in at the time she married Thomas Lincoln. The furnishings and tools are similar to those used during that era.

Historic Downtown Walking Tour
Each Thursday evening from June to September
Elizabethtown's Historic Downtown Walking Tour. The tour covers twenty-five historic sites and buildings varying in age and architectural style. Along the way, actors bring out the personality of such characters as Sarah Bush Lincoln, Carry Nation, Jinny Lind, and General George Armstrong Custer, among others. Admission is Free. Starts at 7 p.m. at 25 Public Square.


Greenbelt Walking Tours
The Elizabethtown Greenbelt Walking Tours and Park are an expanding series of trails and mini-parks around Freeman Lake, Buffalo Lake, Fisherman's Lake and all along the streams that flow to and from them. These parks and their accompanying riparian areas serve as a way to protect the recreational, ecological, educational, historical and aesthetic values, and preserve the natural attributes of the many local waterways.


Hardin County History Museum

Learn Hardin County's history beginning with Native Americans, including artifacts from the local area. There are also traveling and special exhibits on display.


One-Room School House - Freeman Lake Park
Originally built in Summit, Kentucky in 1892, this one-room school was considered the finest school in Hardin County. After many years, the school closed in 1953. In September 1978, several local groups interested in its preservation had the school relocated to Freeman Lake Park. Renovation began in 1980 and in 1982 the school was rededicated.


Schmidt's Coca-Cola Museum

Elizabethtown is home to the world's largest privately-owned collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia. The Schmidt's 100,000 piece vintage collection is 25 years in the making. Since 1886, the coca-Cola Company has placed great importance on its advertising. From trays and calendars to jewelry and antique cars, this museum features a delightful look at the history of America's favorite carbonated beverage.

Approximately 20 antique and classic cars are on display. These are wonderful machines that are sure to bring back pleasant memories of days when life was less hectic and a ride through the countryside on a Sunday afternoon was a family treat. So prepare yourself for a nostalgic trip into the past.
